If your dog is new to training, start short – take the train with one or two quiet stops to start.
When taking the train, you want your dog to leave at least 15 minutes early, so they have a chance to do their business and stretch their legs.
If you’re traveling a long distance, you should allow plenty of travel time for you and your dog to rest on the train.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the train so you can help your dog without rushing. Use the wide doors to get more time and space to walk through the station.
Tips For Dog Friendly Walking Holidays
Make life easier for yourself; Use the Northern app to buy your ticket in advance and go hands-free with your guide so you can easily grab your phone and secure your dog from the table or chair while you’re out and about.
Practice ‘putting yourself in place’ in many different situations with your dog. You can use a towel or mat that you bring so that your dog can sit or sleep. When you get on the train, you can put the bed down to help your dog understand what to do.
Be sure to go easy on the treats and don’t take your dog with a full stomach. If your dog is experiencing motion sickness, you can look into over-the-counter and vet-prescribed medication.
If you’re worried about how your dog will handle being in a cafe, get your coffee to go before your dog gets confused or distracted. Use small treats and gentle praise to keep them calm and they always end on a good note! Go for a walk or play a good game.
Days Out With Dogs
Get training beforehand. A heeled dog is very easy to ride on the train and keeping it close will help you guide them through busy stations and streets and keep them safe.

Four-year-old Freckles’ first trip was on a plane to Norway in June 2022 with his owner, Mrs. Sherlyn Ang and her husband.
Ms Ang, 33, a real estate agent, told ST that Freckles loves walking and outdoor activities in Singapore, hiking trails in Clementi Forest and Bucket Brown.
“We always planned to travel with him as we are serious travelers – before we had him – and we treat him like our baby,” he said.
Mrs Eng had a problem in 2019 and went to neighboring countries without her pet. He said that the short duration of the trip was not worth the trouble of traveling with a dog.

“It definitely felt real the first time – he loves mountains and nature, which we can’t find in Singapore. And sharing happiness with him is something that cannot be fully described in words.
Ms Ang said she would like to continue traveling with Freckles as long as he is healthy, as the pet likes to go hiking and camping on holiday, which can be physically demanding.
“We like outdoor things, because we decided to have a breed that is flexible and ready for fun,” he said. “Traveling with a dog is not easy. Almost every trip is planned around him and there is a lot of research to be done… but it is worth it to us.”

Taking a pet abroad for a holiday of less than two months involves legally exporting it from your country while importing it into the destination country. Return flights have similar requirements.
These requirements include appropriate licenses, documents, vaccinations, approved health inspections and certifications, all of which must be approved by the authorities of each country, and the process and validity period of each document may vary.
This can be difficult because each country has its own specific regulations, restrictions and medical requirements that may differ from Singapore.

These include destinations such as Austria, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. However, similar animals are subject to Singapore’s regulations for importing animals on the return leg.
