When we took the keys to the car, he ran straight to the front door for fear of being left behind. He was so happy on the road with his ears blowing air.
So naturally when we are planning a trip to our camp Ella is a key factor in that plan. We have found great camping places for dogs since Ella came into our lives, and perhaps more importantly, we have learned what makes camping “dog-friendly” for us. .
It seemed obvious, but a few times we were caught thinking that a campground would openly greet Ella, simply being told “no dogs allowed”. Call us stupid people, but before we brought dogs, it never happened to us that some campgrounds did not allow dogs.
How To Find The Best Dog-friendly Campsites
These are few and far between, but it is definitely worth learning from our mistakes and checking in advance. Many major booking sites, such as Cool Camping and Pitchup, have filters that can be used to remove sites that do not use dogs. Many campsites will also display on their website whether or not they accept dogs, and if not, you can call ahead to inquire.
One of my favorite things about life with Ella is that it forces us to explore our surroundings. Almost every camp has a “dog on a leash” policy (which is really the best!), But our dogs are active dogs that need to get out at least twice a day, so it means finding a safe place. To do it.
Fortunately, camping and wilderness tend to go hand in hand, and we often find some hidden treasures within walking distance of our camp.
Before booking a camp, we look at Google Maps to get an idea of the location of the camp. We are looking for forests or rivers or common lands with marked roads. Many of the campsites are located on or next to the farm, so we also checked to keep Ella away from herds or crops if she was not driving.

Quiet and spacious campground near North Devon Beach. Dogs are welcome to lead, but this is a working farm, so beware of pets. The campground is very welcoming with good facilities and great farm shops. It is also near Woolacombe Beach where dogs are allowed (except for a small section) and there is an endless desert to explore there.
If your dog has to let off steam before breakfast … walk towards the entrance to the camp and you will see a small path on your right. Follow this path (away from the road) and it will eventually take you to the bridge and the quiet forest. We did not see any other souls there!
Best Campsites In Yorkshire For Families With Dogs
A large open area in the middle of the lake with a relaxed atmosphere and unmarked grounds. There are countless jungle swimming pools in the area, and a nearby village is a short walk away. The pubs and bars we visited in the village were dog friendly and there were plenty of places to explore in the area. The only thing to watch out for in the Lake District is the possible presence of blue-green algae in some lakes. Cheap and fun camping place on a working farm. Dogs are greeted by a leash, however, this is a working farm. What we love about this site is how simple it is. It’s just a field with a “Wherever you want” layout. It’s near Glastonbury (a city as we’ve found dog lovers – Ella hasn’t gotten much attention yet). So it is easy to walk to Tor and it is also close to a good coastal area in West Lydford.
If your dog has to release steam before breakfast … turn right onto the street and a few minutes later you will see the road on your right. This is the beginning of the road network that travels through the fields. Remember that sometimes there are cattle on the farm closest to the road.

Camping near this huge cliff is one of our favorite places of all time. We found it a few years ago while looking for a place to go with a large group of friends. We want to be able to set fire to a few drinks and generally not worry about disturbing others. Celtic camping proved to be the perfect place for this – there are plenty of places for everyone to get away from each other and there are plenty of beach walks from the campground.
