The Yarra Valley is a beautiful wine region in Victoria, just an hour’s drive from Melbourne. It is a popular place for locals and tourists alike. As Melburnians, we have visited the Yarra Valley several times with our two small dogs. It’s hard for us to always have our way with dogs. However, Helen from Pooches and Pinot Wine Tours contacted us after reading our blog post about dog-friendly South Australian wineries with self-guided tours in the Yarra Valley. His friendliness and attention to detail while curating our experience made us want to go on his wine tour. Through the Pooches Experience and Pinot Tasting wine tour, we experienced a true Yarra Valley dog and we fell in love with this beautiful winery.

We did the Tasting Tour, which included visiting five restaurants and tasting wines paired with different dishes at each stop. All of the wineries we visited are completely dog-friendly; We are met at the cellar door or if the weather is bad we have the area covered. Pooches and Pinot The Mercedes van (two; we went with the small one) is roomy enough to take your dog in the front or back. Pooches and Pinot provides dog beds and seats, tennis balls and snacks for kids (and people). We chose to bring our own car seat and dog collar, but you can contact Helen before the trip.
Our tour guide Jeff (also owner of Pooches and Pinot) was very friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My partner, a wine novice, really enjoyed the tasting to learn more about wine and understand its complexities. Fun fact: Jeff is also a singer-songwriter, so if you’re a fan of 70s and 80s music, ask him to play one of his CDs; we had a lot of fun talking about all kinds of music in the car.
Our first stop was Rob Dolan Wines, who set the stage perfectly
