Best Dog Friendly Vacations Michigan
Pet Friendly resorts are a great investment because of the amenities that come with them. In some cases, there are packages that give you more.
Our 6 Favorite Road Trips To Take With Dogs
When it comes to your dog’s vacation, they often offer something special for your pet. This can be a big advantage if you don’t want to find restaurants, activities, etc., and want to join in on everything the resort has to offer.
It’s also a great way to introduce you and your dog to your pet travels, as you’ll be at a dog-friendly resort that will tell you where or where you can’t take your dog.
One disadvantage of pet friendly resorts is that they tend to be expensive. Whether you think the cost is worth it is up to you, but in some cases, a dog pack can come in handy in hot spots like Mackinac Island, where you’ll pay more for that hotel.
Plus, unless you’re camping (where most dogs are welcome at no extra charge), you’ll pay a regular hotel pet fee, usually a daily rate.

For example, the Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island charges $100.00 each time. If you stay there for 4 nights, it’s about 25 dollars a day. From the island’s Quality Inn, the pet fee is $25 per day, for convenience and limited entertainment. No offense, Quality Inn, I’m just using you to make my point. See what I mean?
Another way to make staying at a resort cheaper is to go during the off-season or when they offer promotional packages.
If you don’t want to burn a hole in your wallet, then for the love of your dog, don’t go to Mackinac Island or Traverse City in June or July.
I’ve mentioned this in a few posts, but it’s at the top of the list for a reason.
Best Guide To Dog-friendly Fun In Port Dover, Ontario
Mission Point Resort is one of the most pet friendly resorts on the island. Not only do they allow dogs, they welcome them with open arms. They have a resident dog on site, Nick the border collie, who you can follow on instagram @nickatthepoint.
Currently their house fee is $100 per stay. They also offer a pet package called Pooch at the Point, which includes a two-night stay, pet fee, breakfast, ferry ticket and welcome supplies for your dog.
The Homestead is located near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and has a variety of accommodations.
The great thing about Homestead is that their housekeeping fee is included in the rate when you book. It is difficult to reserve special rooms for pets so I call to reserve.
Dog Friendly Beaches
Pet-friendly rooms are available at Fiddler’s Pond Inn. They have a limited number so this is something you should book in advance.
As a guest at the Homestead you will receive special benefits such as unlimited access to the pool, hot tub, kayak and canoe rentals, discounts on the golf course, priority reservations for the spa, and more. Check out all the resources here.
Pets are allowed at Crystal Mountain Resort, although there is no special pet package. They list where in the resort your dog is not allowed which is very helpful.
Crystal Mountain is known for winter skiing, two world-class golf courses, a spa and a variety of winter and summer activities.
Dog Friendly Beaches Grand Rapids, Mi
Another popular ski resort, Boyne Mountain Resort is located south of Petoskey. We went without Kirby last year in the Fall and enjoyed the heated pool, and the ski lifts. We also play golf at the Alpine Course which is a beautiful course. They also have another course, Monument, which is said to be more difficult.
Like the resorts above, they also have a spa and offer a variety of activities and entertainment in winter and summer.
In terms of pet friendliness, they are probably the least. They have pet friendly rooms that can only be reserved by phone. Their pet fee is $25 the first night and $10 each subsequent night, up to $150.
It may not be the most famous on this list, but Portage Point Resort has been around since 1903. It has an interesting history as part of the Michigan State Act of 1897 for the construction of a resort after the exhaustion of the lumber industry.

The resort consists of various Inns and Cottages near Portage Lake and access to Lake Michigan as well. It is still being updated and upgraded, but it is still open for reservations.
Pets are welcome at select shelters and can only be reserved online. A $25 per night pet cleaning fee applies to your reservation. See their policy here.

I’m not sure if Sweet Enough is the right story for Swoon Reads, but I appreciate everyone’s input, ideas, and input. Sweet Enough is at Swoon Reads for another season, (their next selection is probably at the end of February) so if you want to read it, now is the time! However, I’m not sure if this book will last anywhere, it will be published or thrown into the question channels, but it certainly won’t leave it. Bring Your Best Friend On These Pet Friendly Vacations In Michigan
I have an in-depth Frankenmuth post here that is a dog friendly trip to Frankenmuth. But in short, Frankenmuth is a beautiful town that looks like a German Village. It is known as “Little Bavaria”, famous for its chicken dishes, and is home to the Biggest Christmas Market.
In terms of dog friendliness, Frankenmuth, Michigan has many special events for dogs, especially those hosted by River Place Shops. If you have a dog that enjoys lots of people and other dogs, plan your trip this Memorial Day weekend and head to The Dog Bowl!
Side Note: Our dog does NOT enjoy the Dog Bowl, and we already know that Kirby is not very fond of other dogs. It was not a good experience for us, so while I recommend the event, I would not take my dog to a crowded dog event. You know your dog, however, if your dog has no problems with people or other dogs, you may have a blast.
SHOPS: Stroll around the decorated shops, drive through the bright Bronner’s display and head to the Halo’s Burgers drive-thru.

FALL: Dress up your dog for the Scarecrow Dog Fest weekend or go with a dog-friendly Oktoberfest!
The most famous of them is the Dog Bowl which is the “World’s Largest Olympic Dog Festival” on Memorial Day. You’ll find harbor dog programs, K-9 programs, dogs to participate, agility and more. We went there
