Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec – Looking for a fun Christmas gift for your child? Christmas in Quebec is a great place for dogs if you like cold, snow and the Christmas spirit. About a nine hour drive from New York to Quebec, Canada and one of the best road trips we’ve ever taken!
Even though it’s a long journey, this vacation is definitely worth it! You see, Quebec turns into a Christmas village during the holiday season, just like a Charles Dickens story; Christmas Song. Here’s where to stay, what to do, and where to eat with your loved ones.
Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec
We stayed at the dog-friendly Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This hotel is located in St. Lawrence and it’s like a castle in the sky. Five-star luxury hotel, this is the most photographed hotel in the world! We accept up to two pets of any size for a CDA fee of $50 per night.

To celebrate the holiday, the interior of the hotel is fully decorated, and the halls are decorated with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take us long to check in and we were surprised to find Gatsby patiently waiting in line even after the long journey. The hotel staff ensures that Gatsby is well looked after. He doesn’t eat kibal, so we asked the hotel to make salmon and roast beef. The staff asks Gatsby if the salmon is cooked to the right temperature!
The best thing about the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that they offer dog sitting services! We gave him a place to come when Danny and I went out to dinner and when we went dog sledding. They paid $26/hour (CAD) for a minimum of 3 hours to come to our room to watch Gatsby. You can tell the sitter to stay in the room or let the sitter take your dog for a walk and play in the snow park outside the hotel.
We walked with Gatsby along Dufferin Terrace, the terrace that surrounds the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This upper area offers views of Old Quebec and St. Beautiful Louis. Lawrence River. There is a huge slide where people stand at the top of the slide (270 feet high) to go down the slide at speeds up to 60 mph at the bottom! Gatsby stays and enjoys looking at people’s photos!
Christmas markets in Germany are open from November 22 to December 23 and we can reach the last day of the holiday markets. We walked through the market and found unique and beautiful handmade goods made in Quebec and foods like Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cookies, and other German treats like bratwurst, pretzels, grapes, and more.
Travel Itinerary: 4 Days In Quebec City
The next place we visited was Champlain’s QuartierPetit District. This is the perfect vacation spot to make yourself Instagrammable! Here, the narrow cobbled streets are lined with lights and holiday decorations. I love visiting boutique shops and some even let Gatsby join me.
Place Royale is steps from the Petit Champlain District and where we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest Catholic church in North America.
Head to the Place des Canotiers, a beautiful square along the river St. Lawrence. Gatsby played in the snow here, and we walked along the river admiring the giant snowflakes.
Unfortunately, we were unable to eat at any of the restaurants in the area as there was no outdoor seating available. The restaurant offers outdoor seating in the warmer months here, and many people dine with their dogs. The only place that offers outdoor seating is the Pub des Borgiain in winter. Even though it was snowing, we sat outside because Gatsby wouldn’t let us listen. I had a glass of wine and Danny was enjoying a bowl of hot French onion soup.

At the hotel, Danny ordered a romantic lunch at Bistro Le Sam & Bar Atrium. This restaurant offers views of St. Lawrence. For appetizers we ordered duck wings with maple syrup and Atlantic salmon tartare. I roasted peppers for the main course and Danny had lamb. Of course we drank a lot of wine and we both shared dark chocolate cake.
We arranged for the pets to come watch Gatsby while Danny and I went on a doggie expedition to Mi Loup! From the hotel we had to drive to Saint-Jean-de-l’Ile-d’Orleans which is about 20 minutes away. If you are not driving here, the hotel can arrange transportation for you. I’ve been wanting to try dog sledding for a long time! When we arrived you could feel the energy from these dogs as they were full of joy and enthusiasm!
The session started with a quick safety and driving technique and then we were off into the woods! I sat on the sled while Danny stood behind me to pull up the mat. This adventure lasts approximately 1 hour and includes a 15 minute session with the dog. This experience was everything I hoped for and I am so grateful to have met these wonderful dogs. If you plan to try it, we recommend you bring a jacket and ski pants. I wore leg warmers which weren’t enough to warm my feet.
Spending Christmas in Quebec is a great holiday. We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and loved the cool town feel and holiday cheer. I’m sure Gatsby felt the same way. Cool temperatures, ice cream, grilled salmon and room service steaks cooked to perfect temperature, comfortable sofas and cozy warm beds. What more could a husky ask for? I’m sure Gatsby’s favorite dog holiday will last a long time!

Cottage For Rent Quebec Region, Quebec Pet Friendly
We traveled with my parents and their big dog, Lupo, a 10 year old Coton de Tulear. It’s important to choose a hotel that can accommodate all of us and our dogs.
We stayed at the Hotel Port-Royal, near the Port of Quebec and Old Quebec. We rarely used the car during our 5 day stay, the location was great.
The daily pet service fee is $25/day (which is quite expensive considering our room was not cleaned during our stay due to COVID). However, pet fees are expected to be incurred when traveling, so try to plan a little.
I love that they have kitchenettes in the rooms, including coffee makers, ovens, and toasters. It was very convenient because we brought snacks and breakfast snacks, especially because we could store Henry’s food in the fridge and freezer.
Quebec City Area Pet-friendly Vacation Rentals
Since we were on the first floor, we had a private terrace where we could all sit outside with our dogs without disturbing anyone. It’s a great place to have breakfast and spend time together.
The restaurant next door, Louise Taverne & Bar à Vin, is very nice and allows dogs out (as long as they don’t bark).
In fact, many restaurants are dog friendly. By law, dogs are not allowed in the actual restaurant, but the patio is often dog friendly, but you should always ask, as we found out.
