Enjoy traveling through Victoria, where adventure and great memories are all your way! Looking for a fun day out with your dog in Melbourne? Whether you want to go to the beach or mountains just outside the city or go on a road trip, I have many ideas for a day tour with dogs in Melbourne within a 2 hour drive from the city center. What great idea would you like to try with your puppy?
Melbourne is world famous for its street art. And exploring on foot for a few hours is actually a great activity for your pup. Unlike art galleries, there are no rules prohibiting pets from roaming the streets!
The most famous street art place in Melbourne is Hozier Lane in the city centre, near Federal Square. I would also recommend nearby ACDC Lane and Duckboard Place, which tend to be less crowded. Combine a walk with your dog with a visit to a dog cafe, be it on a city street or on the banks of the Yara River.
If you don’t want to drive into the city center, there are many good examples of other suburbs that work well with coffee in a cafe or drinks in the local pet shop.
Things To Do With Dogs In Victoria
If you’re looking for a walk in nature rather than a dirt road, one of the best places to explore outside of Melbourne is You Youngs Park. Located less than an hour’s drive from central Melbourne, this local park welcomes dogs to join you as long as they are on a leash.
Yu Yang is named after a local word meaning “big mountain in the middle of the plain”. The most popular walk in the park is to the top of Flinders Peak. From the top of this granite cliff there are stunning views of Melbourne and the Bellarine Peninsula. The 3.5 km return takes about an hour and there are many steps along the way.
There are also a number of short and long walks and many options. An easier option is the 800 meter route around Big Rock. Do not miss the short walk to the top of this granite, just 100 meters from the parking lot. The park also has several dining areas.
A great place to visit on a weekend trip from Melbourne that your child will love is Miss Drew’s Bakery and Dog Cafe on the Mornington Peninsula. The Hondscafé, behind the Tyabb packing house and surrounded by antique shops, is open on Saturdays and Sundays. (It is better to check the opening times in advance.)
