Within walking distance of Beadnell (home to a great pub, a lovely dog friendly beach with water sports, restaurants and shops) and a short drive to Bamburgh and Seahouses, they are an ideal base for exploring some of the best. Parts of the coastal town of Northumberland

There are two cabins here – one with four bedrooms and one with two bedrooms. We stayed in Sandpiper, which has four bedrooms. Each cabin has its own garden and facilities, but if you want to rent both together, there is a gate between the two.

I was visiting with our two sons and only had a couple of negatives – the first is that there is some traffic noise from the road ahead (it dies down around 7pm) and the second is that the bed is on top of a bunk. . It doesn’t have a safety bar so it’s not really suitable for younger children (edit to add, contacted the owner to say it has a safety bar – it was removed before our trip).

Rather than a direct review, I decided to share 10 reasons to stay at Shepherd’s Retreats. Let me know if you like! You can find out more and order online.

The cabins here are very well equipped – everything you need is taken care of, from crockery to towels, firewood, corkscrew, washing up liquid, toiletries, cutlery, fridge, private bathroom, binoculars, guides – quite frankly everything you need. Steve is impressed to see a pair of tongs in the utensil drawer because many places don’t have them and he would be lost in the kitchen without them. Everything is finished to a very high standard and everything looks beautiful and luxurious.

I know many of you wouldn’t even think of glamming without your own toilet and I get it! At Shepherd’s Retreats you have your own shower, sink and toilet. It is also a decent sink. You can see more about the bathroom in our video tour above/below.

Dog-friendly Glamping In Lancashire

It’s not too much of a problem for us now, but when the kids were younger, a covered garden was our dream. It was always a relief to be able to sit outside and know that the children didn’t want to go out on the road. Now as parents of older children, we still appreciate this privacy and it was lovely to sit outside in our own space overlooking the beach and Dunstanberg Castle in the distance.

A hot tub is on many people’s bucket lists when booking a short break, and Shepherd’s Retreats really delivers. Designed to accommodate two people, heat the hot tub with the adjacent gas stove. It takes about 90 minutes to come up to temperature, but once it does, fire it up for about 30 minutes each time you use it again during a break. This hot tub is the hottest hot tub I have ever been in. It was a treat and I think heating it with a wood stove adds to the experience and enjoyment for everyone. We had a routine where the kids enjoyed the bath in the afternoon and Steve and I jumped in when the sun went down. it was good.

Beadnell is a lovely place and the beach here really reminds me of parts of Cornwall. The beach is dog-friendly and you can try your hand at kayaking, kitesurfing, paddleboarding or other water sports here. There are fees and equipment for rent on the beach.

I had a good laugh watching a family try to kayak – the kids immediately took off and paddled, forcing the parents to struggle to get started. They probably fell about 10 times, but it was fun and well worth the effort. Finally they got it right! There’s also a cute beach food shack (check out their Facebook page here).

Shepherd’s Retreats Review

Bait in Beadnell really seems to be the heart of the community, serving seafood at reasonable prices. I will try to get there with Steve sometime because the lobster and fries look divine! There are also many activities such as beach yoga. The people who live here are truly living my dream life. Beadnell is also home to the Craster Arms, one of my favorite pubs.

Seahouses and Bamburgh are all within 5 miles and are definitely worth a visit. I recommend taking a boat trip with Serenity Tours so you don’t miss the seals and Bamburgh Castle and beaches.

Box Pizza is just down the road – a 10 minute walk and great for a takeaway or sit down. Their pizza is divine! Check their Facebook page for opening hours and latest offers as they can be a bit scattered. You can read Steve’s review of Box Pizza here.

If we don’t light it when we see it, then it’s not right to light it, say the children. There are many options here, from indoor and outdoor wood-burning ovens to a large grill and pizza oven. Back to basics in the best possible way. I went overboard on the marshmallows!

Incredible Dog-friendly Glamping In New England

Doing a digital detox is all well and good, and we spent less time on our phones while at Shepherd’s Retreats. The kids played in the garden, we cooked/cooked in the hot tub and around the fire, played games (our favorite is useless) and read books but with the opportunity to keep in touch with people and check if there is an Instagram. also.

There are USB chargers (bring a car adapter) and Wi-Fi. Harry was glad he could still watch his YouTube videos and listen to his podcasts while enjoying a hot chocolate before bed. It’s all about compromise when you’re traveling with a tween and a tween, and I’m not mad at Harry for being on the phone when he’s actively reaching out to us in other ways. It helps make the break less ‘busy’ and as I always say, it’s the kids’ holiday too and if they want some phone time why shouldn’t they. It’s all about balance and it’s great that this option exists.

Directly above the king-size bed is a starry ceiling. I’ve never lived with one of these before and I really think it’s USP. It was so relaxing to lie in bed and watch the clouds move across the horizon. When was the last time you looked at the cloud? I do not remember. I’ve been telling Steve all weekend that I feel relaxed. In the evening, when we turned off the lights, it was beautiful to see all the stars twinkling above. There are curtains if you are worried about the light the next morning but we didn’t use them and everything was fine.

I love that Shepherd’s Retreats is dog friendly. The area is great for dog walking and all the beaches are dog friendly. Dogs are now allowed in nearby Bamburgh Castle Gardens and many pubs/restaurants are dog friendly (you can read about some dog friendly pubs and restaurants here ).

Glamping Holidays In Shropshire

Dogs get a VIP welcome with homemade dog treats in the welcome pack, garden hose to clean their paws of sand, dog towels, food and water bowls. As a non-dog owner, you would never say this place is dog friendly, and there was no sign that a dog had ever lived here. Definitely the best of both worlds!

The cottages were built by a local craftsman in Hexham using recycled materials. I love that the floor of our cottage was once part of the Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay. The cabins received a silver ecotourism award for their efforts, including the use of A-rated appliances, use of a recycling bin, use of local suppliers for the welcome pack, use of solar energy, use of 100% wood from British forests and use of eco-friendly Garden. Cleaning products, making nesting boxes for birds and more. You can read more about their environmentally friendly efforts here. It is good to choose a place to live that actively cares about the environment and is active.
