Beaches Near Me That Are Dog Friendly – If you’re dreaming of a beach holiday with your dog this summer, our guide to the best dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex is for you. Located on the south coast between East Sussex and Hampshire, West Sussex is one of the most accessible coastlines from London and is full of dog-friendly beaches all year round, even in summer. This means you can enjoy a day at the beach with your dog whenever you like, within two hours of London.
Many of the beaches we visited had deep blue skies and blue-green waters glistening in the sunlight, making you feel like you were abroad. West Sussex’s beaches are usually pebbly, but when the tide is out, miles of compact sand await children to play on. Frankly, from your dog’s perspective, they don’t care if the tide is high or low. We’re busy visiting Sussex’s many beaches (someone’s got to go), so we’ve taken several factors into account when creating this list… dog restrictions or not, and easy access from London. There is a convenient dog facility nearby. Even if the beach has dog-friendly facilities, always bring water to keep your dog hydrated, and a cooling coat or bandana if you think your dog might need it.
So here are some of the best dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, and some important information you should know to help your dog get the most out of a day at the beach.
Top tip: When planning your day at the beach, don’t forget to check the tide times. You can check it on this website. If your puppy is not used to the sea yet, it is best to visit at low tide. Please confirm. Whether it’s high tide or low tide, whether the beach is pebbly or sandy, there’s nothing like the feeling of being “by the sea”…with your dog, of course.
Littlehampton West Beach is one of the few places in West Sussex where you can find sand dunes (the best we’ve found so far is at the dog-friendly Camber Sands in East Sussex). Located next to the River Arun, the western beaches stretch for miles to Crimpin (details below). In fact, Littlehampton has two beaches, East Beach and West Beach, one on either side of the river. East Beach is reserved for bathers in the summer, which is reasonable considering West Beach has a beach reserved for dogs. To get to the beach, you can walk past the West Beach Cafe or walk along the boardwalk along the dunes behind the cafe (our preference).

Although not as famous as other beaches, this is a great beach to visit with your dog because it has a large beach, a cool wooden perch beach cafe in Lansing Beach and a large green area behind the beach for your dog. Run around. Perch has a pet dog, Harry, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for humans and pets, and a varied menu for lunch or dinner (dinner is also available in the summer).
Another extensive dog-friendly beach has a very popular dog-friendly cafe that we specifically came to check out, the Bluebird Cafe. The cafe has an authentic beach feel, colorful and welcoming to both people and dogs. A short distance from the sand, there are beautiful colorful beach huts. It’s not as good as the West Wittering Beach Hut, but it’s still a great place to take photos.
It’s the quickest beach to reach by train from London and like all West Sussex beaches has miles of pebbled beaches and is dog-friendly all year round. However, after the beach I always look for dog friendly cafes. There are no proper cafes on the beach, so I recommend taking the train one stop to Lancing Beach, referring to #2 above.
If you want to escape from everyday life, Crimping Beach is the place to go. It’s the closest beach to Littlehampton West Beach, and even an hour’s walk away, it feels quiet and secluded (remember, if you leave your car at Crimping, you’ll have to walk back). Apart from a few other swimmers and dog walkers, we pretty much had the beach to ourselves, so it’s a great beach to go to if your dog needs some space.
Beaches Near Hamilton Dog Friendly?
Dogs also have their own parking space when you arrive. Actually, when you arrive, the parking lot and beach area on the left is okay to let your dog off-leash, and the parking lot and beach area on the right is where your dog must be on-leash. There is plenty of parking available, a small cafe in a converted shipping container and plenty of seating outside on the lawn.
When it comes to dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, West Wittering Beach is on par with West Sussex’s dog-friendly Camber Sands. However, of the beaches in this guide, it is the furthest from London and the most difficult to reach by public transport. However, in the summer, dogs are not allowed on the part of the beach where the beautiful beach huts are located between groin 14a and 18. East Head still has plenty of room for your dog to enjoy the beach all year round. However, the beaches are generally crowded on hot summer days, so it’s best to visit on weekdays or at the end of summer.
