Begin your trip with a tour of the area at the Visitor Center in Port St. Joe. The staff is ready to help. But they were very happy to see our dogs and immediately invited them!
The town of Port Saint is not that big and local attractions can be reached on foot in a few hours. We started with the BayWalk, a gravel path that runs from Frank Peet Park to the pier with great views of St. Joseph Bay. The trail takes you past the historic San Blas Lighthouse, which was built 130 years ago and moved here in 2014.
What you won’t find in Port St. Joe is a collection of beach hotels. There are many pet-friendly hotel options, but most choose a vacation rental.

Located just nine miles south of downtown Port St. Joe, Salinas Park is a great spot for dog-friendly beach walks. Super calm, soft sand and a gentle breeze are all you want from a dog-friendly beach in the Florida Panhandle.
Dogs and pets are allowed on the beach all day, every day. Horses are also allowed on the beach here. In the parking lot there were several horse trailers for sale.
Just west of Salinas Park, Cape San Blas empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Part of this narrow land T.H. Stone Monument St. Joseph Peninsula State Park.
The park has a campground where pets are allowed on leashes on boardwalks and nature trails. Surrounded by water on three sides, it is a great place to walk and walk.

The 28-mile Barrage Island of St. George is divided into three parts. St. George Island State Park preserves the eastern nine miles. The middle section has access to public beaches, accommodation, restaurants, shops and other businesses. West End is an exclusive gated community with its own runway and some of the most expensive homes on the Gulf of Mexico.
Our first stop was at a state park and again we discovered that the campgrounds and trails are pet friendly, but the beaches are not. Still, it’s nice to have some variety, and our dogs enjoyed the 2.5-mile Gap Point Trail through the pine forest. (Parking is at the campground and the trail heads to the left of the site.)
Is Clearwater Beach Dog Friendly?
After your walk, it’s time to hit the pet-friendly beach again! Come back to downtown St. George, where all public beaches are pet friendly – all day, all year!
Like Port St. Joe, the primary accommodation here is rental. Even in St. The George Inn has many pet-friendly rooms, and there are more pet-friendly hotels just 19 miles away in Apalachicola.
Of the Florida Panhandle beaches we visited, Alligator Point was the calmest and most relaxing. The nearest grocery store was about 30 miles away, but eight miles of deserted beach—who needs to eat?!
Lost dogs wait here all day, all year round! With huge sea shells scattered on the beach, it is a perfect place for a picnic.

Where To Stay In Cape San Blas: Barrier Dunes
Dogs are welcome on Fort Myers Beach, but must be no longer than 6 feet. It goes without saying that you are responsible for disposing of any waste.
This area is the only dog-friendly area in Sarasota County, but it’s big with a full dog yard.
Amenities for your little ones include human and dog litter boxes, showers, benches and water fountains. It is open from 7 to night.
This county park is a short drive from St. Petersburg and is often called the best beach in America by experts. It is the only park in Pinellas County where dogs are allowed on the beach.
Florida Pet-friendly Hotels
Fort De Soto has two designated areas near the beach – for large and small dogs. Each has a water station. There is an entrance to the beach at the southwest corner of the dog park.
On the south shore of Ponce de Leon Bay, this park has spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Dogs are allowed on the Gulf Beach, but not on the Atlantic Beach, and must be leashed at all times. Dogs are also not allowed after 10 pm.
“Dog Beach” is 400 feet of sparkling white sand west of Russell Fields Pier. Leashes are required and three dogs are allowed per visit.
