Best Dog Friendly Hikes Los Angeles – Los Angeles is a great place for a dog! Los Angeles County is blessed with dog-friendly restaurants, shops, parks and more. Today I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight three of my favorite dog walks in Los Angeles. As part of Pet First Aid Month, I’m also sharing some tips for keeping your dogs safe on your travel adventures.

Best Dog Friendly Hikes Los Angeles
Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles is open from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Sunday. The park offers 160 acres of “urban wilderness” east of the Santa Monica Mountains and is managed by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

Dogs are allowed in designated areas, including a 90-acre dog park, making Runyon Canyon Park a regular destination for LA dog lovers.
For the trip, dog parents are encouraged to keep their dogs on leashes, as the roads can be crowded. Pet parents are also expected to clean up after their pets, and the park makes it easy by putting poop around the park.
I like to spend mornings or summer afternoons in Runyon Canyon Park. I try to avoid crowds and long parking times by choosing my arrival time carefully.
Armory Canyon Park in Malibu is a great place to spend a day with friends, including pets. I especially like the park’s Sarah Van Trailhead, which provides easy access to the 1,000-acre Coral Canyon Park and the 700-acre Cameron Nature Preserve in Puerco Canyon.
Fabulous Views, Hike Runyon Canyon With Rescue Dogs
Dogs should be on a leash while exploring the wonderful trees, shrubs and local greenery. As a person, spectacular water views are my favorite reason.
The Armory Canyon Park Loop Trail is a 2.4 mile trail that takes an average of 1.25 hours. The Loop is a popular area for birding, walking and jogging, so plan to meet other people and pets as you explore. The search is open year-round and popular seven days a week.
It is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and was featured on the inaugural “Andy Griffith Show.”
Made famous by its opening on “The Andy Griffith Show,” Franklin Canyon Park’s reservoir loop is located in downtown Los Angeles, between the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills. The park’s more than 600 acres include a three-acre lake, an ADA-accessible duck pond, spacious picnic areas and more than five miles of hiking trails. BringFido.com rates this park a 5.0 out of 5, with community reviews saying this place is great for people and puppies!

Although there are several trails, I like the Reservoir Loop because it’s a very easy class, it’s shaded, and it’s a great place to bring the dogs.
The best way to walk your dog is to plan ahead, bring plenty of water and treats, and be safe.
Be mindful of which trail or park you choose for your dog’s walking adventure. This Los Angeles is both famous and wild at the same time. Our parks can be very busy putting reactive and dangerous dogs at risk. In addition, our dogs are prone to bacterial infections from animal feces and carcasses. It is important to plan your trip around peak hours, bring plenty of cold water, and avoid injury and illness.
Taking your dog out, even if allowed, can be dangerous, especially if your dog is very active. It is best to keep the dogs at a standard 6 feet for easy access when needed. I am also concerned that reactive dogs may be confrontational with another dog or a stranger, so I encourage parents of reactive dogs to keep their dogs on short leashes and practice gentle muzzle training for everyone’s safety. Puzzles are also great for dogs who love dog walks and buffets.

I recommend taking your pet to a first aid station. While walking, the animal can easily get foxtails, bug bites or leg or foot injuries. Ice packs, cleaner, etc.

The Best Off Leash Dog Parks In And Around Los Angeles
There’s no shortage of dog-friendly outdoor spaces in Los Angeles, including Silver Lake Dog Park and Rosie’s Dog Beach, a hipster haven on the beautiful Long Beach sands that let you play. Laurel Canyon Dog Park (the oldest in the city) and the large Sepulveda Basin Dog Park (6 ½ acres) are also good options for a quiet walk with your dog. Traffic lights, cameras, Runyon! It’s certainly not quiet on Hollywood’s Runyon Canyon set, but it’s one of the most popular trail systems for active Angelenos and their film companions. Check out this LA Parks map to plan a dog-friendly excursion through 160 acres of green space. I recommend the full feature length for A-list training and big budget scenes. After a short walk on the trail, look for a gate that points to an off-leash area to let your dog off on an adventure (the north end of the park also requires a hike). People and dogs alike love the canyon views, fire roads and chaparral-covered hills, but the real fun comes with the elevation. Throughout the park, you’ll find aptly named spots like Clouds Rest and Inspiration Point, which on clear days offer sweeping views of the city as far as San Gabriel and Santa Monica Bay. For a more Hollywood vibe (and fewer yoga mats), head to the neighboring Trebek Open Space Stage, named after “At Risk” host Alex Trebek. We babysit for $200! At the end of Fuller Avenue, go through the Hillside Avenue intersection. Street parking. It’s good without a strap.
Are you ready to unleash your inner forest? Bring your canine companions on the Upper Canyonback Trail for a self-guided adventure, where dogs have the rarefied sovereignty of a hiking area and humans are free to choose between two trails. Take the wide fire road or narrow single track (or up and down) to explore the canyon, but be aware that only one road leads to the top of the hill when the roads overlap. You can also take the Hollyhock Fire Trail west through Mandeville Canyon to Mount St. Vincent and the famous Nike Rocket site. Alternatively, at the end of Upper Canyonback, take a short hike down the paved road to reach the Lower Canyonback Trail, which leads to Kenter Avenue in Brentwood and offers beautiful views of West LA (see Getty!).
