More and more grocery stores are adopting dog policies, and we’ve compiled a list of 35 national retailers that allow you to bring your pooch when you shop (in addition to pet-friendly stores)!

We’ve divided the list into two categories to help you have a great experience with your pup: 1) stores that have confirmed they allow dogs everywhere and 2) stores with pet policies that vary by location and jurisdiction. Because we know how annoying it can be to find a list of stores that are supposed to be Pet Friendly and get turned away at the door!
*Note: As a responsible pet owner, it is important to respect each seller’s pet policies. Unless your dog is a service dog, don’t bring it to a store that isn’t dog friendly (and never, ever claim your dog is a service dog to get it into the store!). Even retailers with dog-friendly policies leave it up to local managers whether they allow dogs on their premises, so call ahead before taking your pooch on your next shopping trip.
Half Price Books is generally dog friendly (in fact, in the early days of the store, they had so many employees who wanted to bring their dogs to work, they had to limit it to two puppies per store!). If your holiday shopping list includes things like fish finders and hunting cameras, you should definitely visit Gander Outdoors or Camping World and bring your pup along! Gander Outdoors and Camping Country (owned by the same parent company) follows a pet policy and welcomes your four-legged friends to the store. They even have a dog clothing section!

We reached out to Michaels and they told us that all of their stores are pet friendly, but out of respect for all customers, they ask that your child be well behaved. The only catch is that dogs are not allowed in the cooking class. Otherwise, take them with you! They will even clean the cart for the next customer who may have a pet allergy.
Ann Taylor and their more relaxed LOFT are a favorite of both two-legged and four-legged customers. When we arrived at the store, they confirmed that pets and service animals are welcome in their stores under the supervision of their owners. Management may use their best judgment when deciding which pets are suitable for the store (to keep all customers safe), so make sure your pup is well behaved and leave your pet T-Rex.
When it comes to Bed Bath and Beyond, it seems that “beyond” can mean “beyond dog-friendly.” This major home retailer has a dog policy at all of its US locations. They’ve even experimented with a “dog cart” in their New York stores to provide a comfortable and convenient shopping experience for dogs and their people.
Department stores are mostly dog-friendly, and that includes Macy’s, one of the most popular department stores in the country. We reached out to Macy’s, who confirmed that all of their stores are pet-friendly, but please ask your pets to be well-behaved and respectful of other customers.
