Whenever the topic of dog-friendly accommodation in Victoria comes up, I always hear lots of recommendations for best friend holiday retreats. Located in Terra Valley, about 2.5 hours southeast of Melbourne, this rainforest park is specially designed for people traveling with their dogs.
Some of the unique features include individually fenced caravan and camping sites, six secure fenced areas where dogs can exercise, a water bath and dog-friendly playground, as well as a large ball court. Dog-friendly cottages with fenced yards are also available. All dogs are expected to sleep indoors at night!
If you need to get away without your dog, you can use the luxury dog kennel for the day. However, there is plenty to do in the area, including a nearby waterfall and rock pool, perfect for taking dogs for a swim or playing Dog Monopoly.

Head to the west end of the road to find the best dog-friendly accommodation on the Great Ocean Road. There are plenty of dog-friendly cottages available when you arrive in Warrnambool, Port Ferry and Portland, including many affordable options. Traveling along the Great Ocean Road, we stayed at a cottage at Sand Tree Caravan Park in Port Ferry.
We were impressed with our stay at the beautiful and modern studio cottage. Of course, our dog could stay with us for an additional $10 per night (as of 2019), and the park owner was very friendly.
The nearby town of Port Ferry is a lovely place. I recommend getting a list of the many historic buildings and taking a guided tour or walking your pet along the waterfront.
For a beach holiday in the middle of nowhere, head to Golden Beach Cabins in Golden Beach in Central Gippsland, about 3 hours east of Melbourne. This dog-friendly cottage is located across the street from impressive 90 Mile Beach!
