The rocks have become unstable in recent years, so you need to stay away from the base of the rocks. The beach is not close to the rocks until you reach the extreme (bare beach).

There are a lot of steps to get up to this beach so unfortunately this beach should be avoided if your dog is too old or too injured to climb stairs.

A dog can take a reactive dog on this beach with a little patience. There are limited paths, but you can see part of the steps down from the top (go to the side of the retaining wall if you want) and there is room to enter the branching section between the agave path. Ladders and wooden steps that allow dogs to pass.

The steps are a bit tricky, but easier if you have a second person to check in front of you. Sometimes I follow to see if the dog is coming. Those wooden steps down to the beach are a bit tricky, I usually use a halter to get up on this beach so I can manage even with the dog going down both sides.

Where Are The Best Dog Friendly Beaches In South Carolina?

It’s usually a lot easier than it looks and personally worth it if I want a dog in Lead Beach.

Because of the limited space on the stairs leading to this beach, human-responsive dogs and their people may be more comfortable on a leash on the other beach and not have to get too close to people when walking on this beach.

I generally can’t get to this beach without passing others (maybe unless it’s the time of day and time of year, it’s not a busy beach, but when I visit I see someone getting on or off). If you and your dog can safely navigate this situation, obviously use the crisis call and dog reaction notes above can help 🙂
