Many of the larger beaches have seasonal restrictions, but Cornwall still has dog-friendly beaches, with hidden coves, quiet sands and secluded beaches.

Cornwall’s seasonal restrictions usually apply between 1 July and 31 August on selected beaches from 10am to 6pm, but on some beaches from 10am until 30 September. Check Cornwall Council’s website for a full list of where the ban applies.

There are plenty of great beaches around St Ives Bay for a day out with your four-legged friend. Stretching across the Hayle Riviera south of Gwthian Twans to Black Rocks, three miles of open golden sand welcome dogs.
Or try a day at Peters Point, Upton and Mexico City for unspoiled beaches. Linked by a coastal path that winds through wind-swept sand dunes, expect spacious and beautiful surroundings as you gaze at the famous Godrevy Lighthouse.
Crossing the river you will find Portkidney Beach between Hale Estuary and Hawke’s Point, a short coastal walk or walk away from Corbys Bay. Given the width of the sands in the north, it is easy to see how the artist John Miller found his museum in the middle of these impressive beaches.
The Most Dog-friendly Beaches In South Cornwall
Vacationers can go to some of the most dog-friendly beaches in Cornwall, beyond the ‘secret’ Bamaluge Beach (only revealed at low tide) on St Ives Harbor and Porthwiddon.
Formerly wild coastline with rugged cliff lines, Portheras Cove between Morwa and Pendeen provides a stunning backdrop, while Priest Cove in Cape Cornwall provides the perfect last minute spot for a picnic or barbecue.
Meanwhile, Gwenver Beach near Land’s End offers not only a hiker’s paradise, but also a dog owner’s dream. While not the most accessible beach, the hidden neighborhoods of Sennen Cove are worth embracing the rock, offering rugged and rugged charm usually reserved for island escapes.
On the western edge of the Atlantic at Land’s End, you will find a stunning series of exotic-looking caves, including the crystal clear waters of Nanzigel and the wonderful romantic Pedn at Porthcurno, behind the famous Minnock Theatre. Travel west towards Penzance and you will find the beautiful rocky Roskilly beach at the bottom of the rocky road between Mousehole and Newley. Newlin itself is just a stone’s throw from the Newlin Art Gallery and the dog-friendly beach of Worthtown Beach.
The gently curved bay from Newlin to Marazione is home to the spectacular Mount St. Michael, as well as the welcoming beaches of Penzance Promenade (tire) and the sandy beaches of Long Rock Beach.
Travel further east to Cornwall’s south coast and you’ll discover a world of rolling coves, open spaces and winding paths. Venture beyond Marazio and you’ll find the delights of the Prussian Grove, where the beautiful leafy landscape offers everything from sheltered beaches to gardens of wildflowers.
The West Cornwall coast continues east to Porthleven, where Bar Beach, as well as Cornwall’s largest natural freshwater lake, allows dogs to roam freely in the water, although it is not dangerous to swim.

Nothing beats an invigorating walk in the woods or on the beach, a dog-friendly day at the base or a refueling stop at a cafe. If you’re looking for a serious workout, our favorite is the Coast Path Walk, a six-mile walk from St Ives to Zenner. Once you arrive at the 13th century Tinners Arms, you’ll pass the wild sea, the valley that inspired Zenner’s mermaid legend and relax by the fire or outside looking out over the wild, lush garden.
For more shelter, less walking, we like Tehidy Country Park, West Cornwall’s largest woodland. Its 9 kilometers of marked trails are ideal for walking energetic dogs in all seasons, and there is a lakeside cafe serving cakes and snacks. Note that dogs are not allowed in designated wildlife areas.

When you arrive, make sure you park in the Gwythian Towns car park and walk west towards the center of the beach as there are dog restrictions at the Godrevy and Filak ends.
Another great place on the North Shore to check out! Harleen is on the west side of Padstow and has the benefit of a lovely sandy beach for your short friend to run on.
Completely sheltered by cliffs on each side, this is a great beach to bring the whole family and let the dog run, maybe even a spot of surfing!

If it’s more difficult to handle, you’ll want to make sure both you and your bag are prepared for the 20-minute hike up and back. But I must say, it is not worth it!

On the Zoo Peninsula you will find Kawarak Beach in Cornish. This area is known as a good place for swimming, and the gentle calm is perfect for wading around with your pup!
