At high tide there is plenty of sand to drift around and great opportunities for diving as well as rocky cliffs to dive and explore. Short boardwalks provide easy access to both beaches, with parking and overlooking the main beach near the restaurant. There is also a small and slightly used car park on the east bank which is free.
At the rear of Looe lies a calm south-east facing Hanafore Bay. It is relatively easy and relaxed compared to the main beach in Lewes, which is very popular with the dog walking community. The beach is mostly shingle and rocky, and the tide pool showcases all the swimming pools with a beautiful view of St. George Island, a nature reserve that can be visited by boat. The main car park is at Looe, which offers a pleasant walk along the beach, but there are also parking paths along the beach, making it easy to get to the sand.
