Best Dog-friendly Holidays Scotland – If you are looking for a getaway in the UK where you can bring your dog and relax in the countryside, I have just the place…
I sat watching the wind move the waves faster and harder as the dogs snuggled up to me on the ground. Olly lay on the couch after falling asleep reading a book and I sat down with a cup of tea, a few cookies and my laptop I felt the need to write.

I put my phone away, the wifi is turned off and I have no distractions but sometimes a strange song that comes from my iPod on shuffle. No Eminem “True slim shade” doesn’t fit my heart now… pass!
Dog Friendly Holiday Cottages In The Scottish Highlands
I stayed at Airor in Knoydart, Scotland for three days and I felt very relaxed. I have no hope for this party, no name to do, no minimum need in advertising, no plan!
I stayed in Camusblathen, a small hotel set less than 100m from the sea, looking towards the Isle of Skye in the distance. I have been waiting 5 years to return to my little heaven in the UK and in action
We stayed at the Knoydart Bunkhouse and my brother and I went hiking in the mountains while my dad met with some locals about sustainable forest management. I was only there for a few days but I knew I had to come back one day, I can’t believe it took 5 years but I’m here.
At this time, the house they live in with Olly, Rowland and Baxter is in Airor, a small village about 7 miles from the main village of Inverie. Although Knoydart is on the UK mainland, you can only access it by boat or by walking a few miles from the nearest road. The ferry from Mallaig up to 3 times a day in the peak season doesn’t even stop, not that there are many places to go.
Dog Friendly Sea View Cottages
This party is always going to be an unexpected party… with slow wi-fi, the pub is only closed for the season, and is 7 kilometers from the Lone market and two cafes, there is little to do but rest.
So far I have drunk 20 cups of tea, cooked and eaten many meals, walked 3 dogs and lost 1.5 pounds. Hygge at its best!
The views here are exceptional. Last time I visited I saw basking sharks and marsupials on the boat and this time we saw deer, pinemartin and many local sheep.
And the post only goes out 3 times a week and is little more than a small post office to get the supplies you need to carry everything you need with you which means light packaging is not easy at this time. Especially with two dogs!
The Best Dog-friendly Beaches In The Uk
The house we live in sleeps 7, with three double beds and a bedroom with an extra bed.
It is well equipped with all the kitchen appliances you need in the kitchen, such as a dishwasher, two ovens, three comfortable chairs and a large dining table that is comfortable to sit on. 7.
David the owner has renovated this house into a beautiful and comfortable home. Many local pictures and paintings on the walls and books about the beach and pebbles add to the decor. There are plenty of books, DVDs and board games to keep you entertained for more than a week. We tried the 1000 piece puzzle but it didn’t go far!
Best of all it’s just seconds away from a quick walk on the beach or a longer hike in the mountains. The house is dog friendly, with a veranda to wash the muddy paws before going in and a dog will be happy snuggling in front of a fire on a cold day.
9 Best Luxury Dog-friendly Hotels Scotland
There are many local dogs who are happy to join the walks, and although there are some areas with sheep where dogs are required, there are many walks where your pooch can roam freely.
It’s hard to capture the peace of this place, but I hope my photos begin to do it justice.
David lent the residents his 7 seater Toyota Landcruiser for the week to get to and from the village. It takes about 40 minutes to drive the 7 miles from home to Inverie on a single track (with a few detours).
We were here on holiday the pub famous for its fresh fish was closed but there were a few cafes open during the day, a supermarket and a local market.

Tomorrow evening we will drink at a local wood workshop, with wine and local wood gifts. It was the same night that we left because unfortunately we missed the music night in the village hall where we had to leave before Saturday night.
For small communities it seems like something happens every week, everyone supports the local business as much as possible. I was surprised to learn that most people work in one way or another in Knoydart, and at least get the ferry to Mallaig to work. There is still a lot to do and a lot of people are also doing “knowledge exchange”. “I will make your house if you help me with my strength.” Love it!
It just makes me wonder why we don’t try with our neighbors at home, maybe when Olly and I get our country house and move to a small village or farm reply?
David’s house can be rented all season from March to October for £750 per week (per week, no extra charge for weekends). This includes the use of a 4×4 vehicle, unlimited logs for the fire and all the essentials you need at home such as toilet roll, kitchen papers, fuel and spices and bed linen and towels. Just bring your own food and drinks and anything else you can pack for a party.
Best Dog Holiday Locations In Scotland -isle Of Bute
There is a limited selection at Knoydart, so book your place soon for next year, but you can check availability at Camusblathan on the website.
On my next trip to Scotland with the dogs I will visit Dumfries and Dog friendly Galloway, it doesn’t seem surprising!
I chose to visit Knoydart and stay in Camusblathen and David gave me a discount to cover his expenses, although as always the opinions are 100% mine and true.
Davide will be going on a big solo adventure this year spending two years traveling over 6000 miles across the UK and making ‘one of David’s adventures’ on his Facebook page.
