Plan Your Weekend On The Gower Peninsula
It is very popular with dog owners who are looking for a guide to spending time on the Gower Peninsula with their furry friends. Due to the terrain, there is an inland beach in the area, which provides excellent conditions for walking dogs. Although some beaches have seasonal restrictions that run from late April to early October, there are plenty of friendly beaches to explore all year round.
The promenade along Swansea Beach is wide and you can walk your dog from Swansea Marina to Mumbles Head and beyond (although dogs are allowed on a lead, parts of the beach can be blocked off at times). You can join the promenade. At various points, a good walk from Blackpill to Mumbles is about 3 miles and there is a cafe on the way, it can get crowded at times on the walk, especially at Mumbles, it is also a bike ride so keep your dog on a lead. Importantly, dogs are allowed to walk on the beach from West Cross to Mumbles. (all years)
There are many friendly facilities, including cafes, bars and restaurants, eager to welcome our friends. Our favorites include Lounge Croeso, The Mermaid, The Mumbles Beach Hut on Mumbles Pier and Love You Latte on Newton Road. Each of these companies makes every effort to create a dog-friendly environment.
There are ‘Surfside Cafes’ in Rotherslade, Langland and Caswell which are very dog friendly. In summer, the Rotherslade Cafe is now open until 8pm. Langland’s Brasserie does not allow dogs in the restaurant, but you can dine on the terrace overlooking the beach. (cookie and water available).
Holiday Cottages On The Gower Peninsula From £47
The Dog Friendly hotel blog lists local hotels that accept dogs. Of course, there are plenty of other dog-friendly gems we haven’t discovered yet. We hope to expand the information on this site as we continue our search for dog-friendly places.
As Buddy loves the sea, we will be visiting Oxwich Bay and Port Eynon more often during the summer months. Situated on the corner of the beach, Oxwich Bay Hotel has a large beer garden and a small contact point for dog owners located within the hotel grounds.
At Port Eynon Boat Inn, dogs are allowed in the bar where meals are also served. I believe the Chief of Staff in Llangennith allows dogs in the pub, the same applies to the Britannia Inn in Llanmadoc.
Clyne Gardens is a beautiful garden with lots to do for walkers. The walk around the park takes about 40 minutes, there are plenty of benches and viewpoints along the way where you can rest. The Woodman Pub is situated on Mumbles Road, at the southern end of the garden with a car park and beer garden for dogs. This is a busy restaurant that accommodates dogs. Can get busy on weekends and peak times. There is a bowl of water and free cookies.
