“Of course, on these beaches we consulted with the locals. We also reached out to Reddit communities, compiled the list, and then cross-referenced them with the official sites. Other factors and constraints were taken into account at different beaches.
Topsail is just an hour from Wilmington, while the trip to Nags Head takes just four hours.
St. Petersburg, Fla.; Bai Dai, California; And Freeland, Washington also made the list. Then there are some places that are landlocked but still have beaches, like Chicago, IL. and Sawyer, Michigan.
Fleming, who has a 35-pound schnauzer named Gus, was excited to see two beaches in North Carolina.

“Even then, I tried to be unbiased,” said Fleming, who graduated from UNC-Wilmington and is very familiar with the Tar Heel State’s various beaches.
According to the Town of Nags Head website, dogs are allowed on the beach year-round as long as they are leashed no more than 10 feet.
Many other Outer Banks beaches considered pet-friendly also allow dogs. But many people have restrictions on the time of day or weather their furry companions can roam.
Dogs are allowed on Topsail but must be on a leash within 20 feet of the Topsail Beach site between May 15 and September 30. Outside of the summer months, dogs must be under human supervision Be responsible but not chained.
