Best Vacations With Dogs West Coast

Best Vacations With Dogs West Coast – In this post, I wanted to give you a look at the best places for dogs in the West with an emphasis on California and Oregon, two states where you can easily travel with pets (know me, because I go here all the time)!  In these countries, I like to find places that go above and beyond for dogs: basically, lots of dog parks or dog beaches, pet-friendly hotels, safe accommodations in the city, and easy to transport. Pets on the go.  I found some great places like Bend, Oregon and Carmel, California.  Join me and my dog Dylan as we explore the “Best Dog Friendly Places in the West”!

My only beach trip in Oregon was to Cannon Beach, but remember: almost all Oregon beaches are dog-friendly and have fewer rules and regulations than California beaches! Translation: The Oregon Coast is a dog-friendly area. Photo of Gold Beach, Oregon.

There are many reasons why I love Cannon Beach: beautiful town, many great restaurants, KAPE (Sleepy Monk!!), first class hotels, pet friendly hotels and of course: the part is 100% pet friendly. .  No rent needed here!!  Oregon is more peaceful than California in this regard.  The views of Haystack Rock will amaze you, especially on sunny days.  Walk your dog along Ocean Avenue, have a cup of tea on one of the outdoor patios, and stop by the cute pet shop around the corner: Love Puppy by the Sea.

*** My Picks for Pet Friendly Hotels in Cannon Beach: This is a tie between Ocean Lodge and Surfsand Resort.  Beach hotels, luxury hotels and pet friendly hotels.  Ocean Lodge has bigger rooms and a better view ~ but Surfsand is closer to town, Haystack Rock has nicer rooms, and their Wayfarer Restaurant is my favorite place in town (with room service)…

Bend is my current home in the United States, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a better place for animals.  The number of amazing dog parks in Bend only puts California’s dog parks to shame, and nearly every restaurant in town is dog-friendly, including: McMenamin’s St. Francis School (pub, brewery, cinema, concert venue. , cigar bar and hotel all converted to an old Catholic school), Tahanga Winery, Avid Cider, Crook’s Beer, 10 Barrel… and the list goes on…

Bend has more dog-friendly parks, hotels, and restaurants than any other city on this list! Dylan’s photo was taken on the famous Deschutes River Road in Bend.

*** My pick for the best hotels in Pico: Tetaro Golf Resort.  At Tetherow, you’re on a golf course with stunning mountain views ~ you’re only 5 minutes from downtown Bend and the Old Town National Historic District.  This is the best place for animal sitting in the city.  Or, head to Sunriver Resort, about 20 minutes south of Bend: one of the best family resorts in the US.

Carmel Beach is my favorite dog-friendly beach in the world: the famous Pebble Beach is on the right, and if you follow the Big Quarter to the left, you’ll see cypress trees framing your view, all kinds of multi-billion dollar homes… One Clint Eastwood reason to live here: There’s something special about Carmel.

The city is also dog-friendly: they’re welcome everywhere ~ but I especially love Forge in the Forest with its outdoor patio and dog-friendly menu…

Carmel isn’t the only place in Monterey Bay with great ocean views: head to Pacific Grove, walk along the beach…

***My favorite hotel in Carmel: Pebble Beach House.  Yes, it’s expensive~ but according to my parents and a helpful friend: All the rooms here are good!  You can bring a large dog.  Try Doris Day’s Cypress Inn in Carmel for less.

Dog-friendly Beaches In Florida

I grew up in Orange County and last week I met up with some friends at Pacific City, the new outdoor mall in Huntington Beach.  I have Dylan when I go home for Christmas ~ I have to bring him to the mall.  We were welcomed by the shopkeepers, served coffee and we all had lunch on Simsi’s terrace overlooking the harbor and the sea.  I would go back in a heartbeat!  Another reason to visit Huntington with your pooch: It’s the only beach in Orange County that allows dogs outside.

***My favorite hotel in Huntington Beach: Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach.  Kimpton’s are so cute and always dog friendly…they even offer dog happy hour!  The ocean views are enhanced by the blue-green color palette ~ & a block from the pier, Main Street, and the ocean, which is also very romantic.  And Huntington’s Dog Beach is just one mile north…

San Diego has not one, but two dog-friendly beaches for rent, located in two different areas: Del Mar and Coronado.  Dylan and I tried it last year at Del Mar Dog Beach, south of Encinitas.  Although not as big as Carmel Beach: it’s still amazing.  Happy dogs ran into the water, people were friendly, parking was easy, and many were on the same road as the beach entrance.  Coronado’s White Sand Dog Beach is just a stone’s throw away from the famous and beloved Hotel del Coronado.

***My Favorite Dog Friendly Hotel Picks in San Diego: San Diego is big, so it’s up to you where you want to be.  For the northern counties, check out L’Auberge Del Mar, which accepts two dogs of any size.  If you’re in the Gaslamp Quarter, check out the trendy Indigo Hotel with its rooftop terrace.  If you want to be close to Coronado’s famous dog beach, check out the Hotel del Coronado ~ it has three pet-friendly restaurants!  (Dogs up to 40 pounds only at Del…)

Rounding out my picks for the best places for dogs in the West!  I’d like to add one thing: most of the travel articles I’ve read lately have been written by A.I. Or external editors who don’t visit the sites they recommend.  Note: All places on this list have been visited by me within the last year, so my opinions are valid for 2020 and beyond!

I’ve been traveling with Dylan between California and Oregon every year since 2010, so all of these places are places I visit and hope to return to every year.
