Dog Friendly Resorts Near Washington Dc – Just a two-hour drive from D.C., River Mountain is the perfect resort for you and your furry friend. )

As much as locals love D.C., sometimes we feel a basic urge to GTFO. In my case, having recently been laid off, I needed a break from cheering on countless job postings a day. I wanted to move away from D.C. (aka LinkedIn: The City) and enjoy working life.

Between their own jobs and their kids, none of my friends were able to join me on the last mini-adventure. This trip was a solo trip with my pup Jack, so I had a few requirements. We found a place that was a reasonable drive, pup-friendly, and best of all, far enough to see the stars, but not too far. . Jack is not a great guard dog because he is afraid of his own shadow. I didn’t want to be Jane Doe on the next true crime podcast. )

Ultimately, I wanted a resort where I, a woman traveling alone with a dog, could feel safe and comfortable. Google gave us a chance to check it all out: River Mountain.

“Our goal is to create a place where everyone feels welcome and enjoys the great outdoors,” says owner Meghan Gruszynski. “It’s an accessible and inclusive destination where people want to develop their connection with nature through time spent in nature with others.” )

Just a 2 hour 20 minute drive is River Mountain in Everett, Pennsylvania, just across the western border of Maryland. It was the perfect degree of concealment. Far enough to be surrounded by nature, but not far enough for a virtual ax murderer to handle my body.

The resort is located along Sweetroot Creek in the Buchanan State Forest, with 150 acres of expansive meadows, trails, springs and forests to explore. Gruszynski and business partner Ryan Tyrrell work with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to protect and preserve land and natural resources. The Foundation’s Keystone Million Trees Partnership aims to facilitate the planting of 10 million new trees in key Pennsylvania landscapes by the end of 2025. )

“Sweet Root Creek is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, so it has a direct connection to our neighbors in the DMV community,” Gruszynski said. “Every two years we plant trees, carry out ongoing rehabilitation and education.”

The owners thought as much about guest accommodation as environmental partnerships. The cabins are in harmony with the natural environment of the property and are specifically adapted to the cyclical rhythm of the body. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to wake up to natural light and relax under the stars as the sun sets. There are huge valleys just outside where you and your pup can cross.

A long collar is recommended so your dog can take advantage of the open spaces here and along the trail. The River Mountain trail is a nice 1.45 mile loop along a creek and Jack loved soaking his feet to cool off the heat. Find a “hammock hideout” with swinging hammocks in the trees where you can comfortably take a nap or read a good book.

Break it down into groups and get out of the LinkedIn capital of the world for less than this price. DC parking violation.
