An ordinary cage is a pet. Each studio-style cabin sleeps up to four people, with a double bed and two single beds, plus a private kitchen and bathroom. There is also a pet-friendly cabin, usually with a queen bed in a separate bedroom and wood-burning heat.

If you want to spend a beach holiday with your pup in Queensland, the best dog park on the Gold Coast is Kirra Beach Tourist Park. Just a short drive from the beach (and a short drive from Palm Beach Dog Beach), dogs are allowed year-round in select motorhomes and luxury cabins.

Two of the spacious two-bedroom apartments are designed as a perfect kennel. Each cabin porch is open and has a pet-proof screen designed to allow cooking, perhaps using a grill on the porch. Inside there are two bedrooms that can accommodate up to four people, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom.

Dogs are welcome in at least 20 pet-friendly parks. Top pet-friendly options include Studio Cozy Cabins, Cozy Cabins, Two Bedroom Cabins, Two Bedroom Family Cabins, Bungalows, and Two Bedroom Terraces, which can accommodate two to six guests. Pets are not allowed in motel rooms or villas. Check with the park or their website (see paw signs) if in doubt.

Up to two calm, well-behaved dogs are allowed inside at no additional cost, advance reservation is required. Be sure to let the park know you are bringing a pet when you order and bring pet insurance.

North Stradbroke Island is one of the dog-friendly islands off the coast of Queensland. Pets are allowed on the ferry, as well as on the beach and at the island’s free beach bars. The classic option is to camp on the beach which can only be accessed with four-wheel drive, but North Stradbroke also has a good range of animal shelters.

Take Your Pet

Book accommodation at Sea Shanties at Amity Point on the north side of the island. Five of its eight homes are pet-friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome. The comfortable cabins can accommodate two to six people, and each has its own kitchen and bathroom.

Whether the cottages are located on the beach or in the garden, they all have access to the property’s amenities, including a beachfront outdoor kitchen and barbecue grill.

It’s just a three-hour drive north of central Brisbane to Sandy Beach, but it’s a world away from the city, especially when you’re staying in the quiet and peaceful Poona Palms Park.

Parking is just a few steps from the Nielson Park Dog Park, located on the north side of Fred Coutice Avenue. Dogs are also allowed at the top of the Esplanada stretch of Bargara Beach, but you should watch out for the few signs that say dogs are not allowed.
