Focused on history and home to the childhood home of Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln State Park features more than 10 miles of hiking trails, mountains and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to explore this state park with you. You can see the Lincoln Boy National Memorial, a pioneer farm, the site of Lincoln’s home, the grave site of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the historic Twelve Stone Trail. Want to stay up all day? You can camp in this state park! Perfect for an overnight stay.
If the covered bridges remind you of the famous movie, you know why this area of Iowa is a special place to travel. Your dog is welcome to accompany you on the many covered bridges in this area of Iowa. Madison County is the bridge capital of Iowa. This region has the largest group of covered bridges in one region! Since there are many bridges that access the dirt, leave the RV behind the campsite while you explore.

In our more than six years of RV travel with pets, when I think of the place that surprised me the most, it is the base of the Chalk Pyramids in Kansas. Many travelers don’t know about this place, but now the secret is out! On the western border of Gove County, Kansas are Monument Rocks. This series of large chalk monoliths are known as the Chalk Pyramids. Dogs are allowed on a leash and you will feel like you are on another planet. This happens once in a lifetime.

Originally from Florida, we love being at the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Brickle and Digby, I now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore There are miles of sandy beaches and bluffs jutting out over Lake Michigan. Like many places, there are beaches where dogs are not allowed, so check with the friendly park staff, get a map, or look up information online. We discovered that there are more places to visit in Brickle and Digby on this charming coast than we expected. But remember that dogs are not allowed to climb the hills for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel like Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a fun place for us on our trip. Check out the statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe The Blue Ox for a great photo opportunity. This roadside attraction has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Paul Bunyan and his baby blue boat, built in 1937, are located on the shores of Lake Bemidji near the Visitor Information Center. After you get the best pictures of your dog, visit nearby Itasca State Park. Here you can see the upper reaches of the Mississippi River, take a walk and have a picnic!
Indianala State Park, named for the largest sandstone cave in the park, borders the mighty Missouri River. Your dog will thank you for bringing him camping, picnicking and hiking for over 22 miles! Indian Cave is the main geological feature of the park and contains ancient Native American petroglyphs! Be sure to keep your dog on a leash and clean up after yourself to maintain this beautiful environment.
Generally, we tend to stay away from big cities on our RV trips because our dogs are older. But we found Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri to be a beautiful urban and natural setting. Two iconic buildings in this 91-acre park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy walking through the green grass and fields, watching the horses and carriages, and relaxing at the picnic. Demented dogs can explore the park and walk the River Trail.

We love roadside attractions and unique stops, and the dog-friendly Dolonti Frontier checked all our boxes! The first buildings from rural North Dakota were moved to this area. Filled with unique antiques and artifacts, the exhibits are a great way to learn about North Dakota and its history. If you’re looking for the ultimate bison monument, you’ve found it! Visit this unique photo spot near Frontier Village. You can’t resist!
This park is a great place for native plants and wildlife, and your dog is welcome to explore the more than 100 miles of trails in this national park with you. Why does Cuyahoga Valley National Park have my heart? There is a winery in the park! Yes, a dog workshop! After walking and exploring, sit under the trees at Sarah’s Vineyard with your dog. As with any park, check animal restrictions before visiting.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota state park and wildlife refuge in the Black Mountains of South Dakota. Custer State Park is famous for its bison herds, scenic drives, historic sites, resorts and campgrounds. It has been named as one of the top ten wildlife hotspots in the world on the list of wildlife within the park’s boundaries. This state park is huge and exciting, just 25 miles from downtown Custer!
I still remember the way Digby looked at me as we stood on the shores of the Apostle Islands. The wind was blowing, the sun was shining, and all was well in our traveling world. For the crust, all the ingredients are mixed and left to rise in a warm place for an hour. The dough is rolled out and spread on a greased pizza pan, cast iron or deep dish. Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Bake the crust for 15 minutes and remove it from the oven. Top the crust with the cheese and toppings and spoon over the tomato sauce mixture. Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving to your dog.
