Canterbury is home to history with a magnificent cathedral in the city centre. In the summer of 2023, the Cathedral began a trial of bringing well-behaved dogs indoors with their owners, and we hope this will continue. Even if you don’t, the 6th-century architectural façade is a must-see during your visit.
The Canterbury coast is perfect for visiting by plane, as you can reach Whitstable and Herne Bay, as well as London within an hour by train. The area is full of dog-friendly pubs, including The Two Sawyers, The Unicorn Inn and The Thomas Becket, each with their own dog-centric menus, as well as great walking trails.
The Rocks in Brighton is a great place to visit with your dog. But a walk along the beach is a must, and there are plenty of places to stop for coffee, beer, and donuts. The beach is rocky rather than sandy, so dogs won’t take half of the beach home by train or car. Dogs are only allowed on some beaches during the summer, so check the council website for more information.
In the center of Brighton is the Pleasure Palace, a royal pavilion built by King George IV. Although dogs are not allowed, the gardens are wonderful and can still be enjoyed.
