Rich in history and the site of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home, Lincoln State Park features more than 10 miles of trails, rolling hills and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to explore this state park with you. You can visit the Lincoln Boyhood National Monument, a pioneer farm, the site of Lincoln’s home, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the historic Twelfth Night. Want to stay all day? You can camp in a state park! It is good to stay overnight.
If the covered bridge has been featured in a famous movie, you know why this town in Iowa is a special place to visit. Your dog is welcome to join you at many of the links in this area of Iowa. Madison County is a covered bridge city in Iowa. The city has the largest set of forest covered bridges of any region! Because there are many bridges that can be accessed over dirt roads, leave the RV behind at the campground while you explore.
Over the past three years of RV travel with animals, when I think of the place that has surprised me the most, it turns out to be the Chalk Pyramid in Kansas. Not many travelers know about this place, but now the secret is out! Monument Rocks is located in the western part of Gove County in Kansas. It is one of the large chalk monoliths known as the Chalk Pyramids. Dogs are allowed on a lead and you will feel like you are in another world. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Being originally from Florida, we love being at the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with Brickell and Digby, I can now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore features miles of beaches and cliffs that tower over Lake Michigan. As with many areas, there are some beaches where dogs are not allowed, so check with park staff, get a map or look online. We found that Brickell and Digby have more places to visit on the beautiful coast than we expected. But remember that dogs are not allowed on the dunes for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel like Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a fun stop for us on our trip. Visit the giant statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox for a great photo opportunity. This trail attraction has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Built in 1937, Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Baby stand on the shores of Lake Bemidji near the Visitor Center. After getting the best photos of your dog, head to nearby Itasca State Park. Here, you can watch, walk and eat as the Mississippi River flows!
Named for the large sandstone cave in the park, Indian Cave State Park borders the mighty Missouri River. Your dog will thank you for allowing him to camp, eat, and hike the 22 miles of trails here! Indian Cave is the main geological feature of the park and contains prehistoric Native American petroglyphs! Make sure you keep your dog on a lead and clean up after them to keep this beautiful place.
Generally, we like to stay away from big cities on our RV trips because our dogs are older. But we found Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri to be the perfect balance between city and quaintness. Two landmarks in this 91-acre park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy walking on green lawns and parks, watching the horses and carriages go by, and relaxing with food. Dogs on a lead can explore the park and walk along the Riverside Path.

We love the hiking trails and unique parking lots, and the Frontier Village dog checked all our boxes! The first homes were brought to this location from the North Dakota border towns. Exhibits filled with antiques and artifacts are a great way to learn about North Dakota and its history. If you’re looking for the world’s largest monument, you’ve found it! Visit this special place for a photo, near Frontier Village. You can’t resist!
The park is a beautiful haven for plants and wildlife, and your dog is welcome to accompany you on this 100-mile hike through the national park. Why does Cuyahoga Valley National Park attract my attention? There’s a winery in the park! Yes, a dog-friendly winery! After walking and exploring, sit under the trees at Sarah’s Vineyard with your dog. As with any park, check the national park’s animal restrictions before visiting.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota state park and wildlife sanctuary in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Custer State Park is famous for its wildlife, scenic drives, historic sites, resorts and campgrounds. It has been named one of the top ten wildlife destinations in the world for the diversity of wildlife within the park. Just 15 miles from the city of Custer, this state park is huge and gorgeous!

For the crust, mix all the ingredients and let them stand in a warm place for an hour. Roll the dough and spread it on a greased pizza pan, cast iron or deep plate. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake the pastry for 15 minutes and remove from the oven. Place the cheese and toppings on top of the crust and spoon the tomato sauce mixture over it. Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving to your dog.
