Clark refused to admit Ellen when she was wrong. Forced to buy a car he didn’t want, Griswold decided his new car was the perfect vehicle for his commute.
Rusty and Audrey may not respect their parents. In one scene, Rusty continues to play video games after Clark tells him to stop, and props his feet up on the headrest of Clark’s car. While Clark and Ellen sing street songs, Rusty and Audrey pretend to be short of breath.
Another recurring joke is that Clark can’t remember his daughter’s name, and Clark says he sees Ellen’s nephew Eddie as more than a pile of dirt. Clark and Ellen argue, sometimes yelling as they fight. In a big outburst, Clark taunts Ellen and then leaves the hotel room.

Birthday, never getting old. While there is certainly all manner of lewd content in modern entertainment, I think most viewers today would agree that Clark’s treatment of his wife (and all women) is unacceptable. The film sheds light on the cheating man, confirming that it is the harassment of women that drives people to this immoral act.
It paints an even more unacceptable picture of that intimate relationship. If Clark seems like a decent father treating his wife and children to a nice vacation, immaturity, immorality, and selfishness undermine the gesture.
