Dog-friendly Winter Getaways Near Me – There’s something about January that makes me want to sit down with my calendar and plan a whole bunch of trips for the coming year. It’s so cold and dark outside that it’s incredibly satisfying to curl up with your laptop and plan some adventures.
Although we’ve put off major international travel during the pandemic, we’ve really enjoyed getting to know the Seattle area again and all of its great (and dog-friendly!) weekends. After living in New York and Chicago for ten years, it was so much fun to come back and rediscover old favorite destinations, as well as see all the new innovative attractions, boutique hotels and unique Airbnbs that have popped up here. And most importantly, I loved seeing how many of them choose dog-friendly options during your stay. I am much happier when I can take Dave and Lizzie on holiday.

Walla Walla is one of the best wine regions in the country with over 120 wineries, so I honestly can’t think of a better place to spend a few days. This modern city center hotel has long been noted as looking like the perfect base camp for a weekend in the snow or a weekend of wine. Or both! Honestly, Coho Oceanfront stole my heart with these waterfront fire pits. Although this Oregon Coast residence is a bit far from Seattle, its beautiful modern interior and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean make it worth it. Dogs under 25lbs are welcome in selected rooms. More information here.
My New Year’s resolution is to book an overnight stay in the dream apartment in St Petersburg as soon as possible. In Edwards, it should be easy as it is only half an hour’s drive from the city. This landmark historic seminary has been renovated into a luxurious and elegant retreat nestled on 326 acres of trails on Lake Washington. I’ve been dreaming of being one of those Insta-famous A-frames for far too long, and I’m determined to make it happen this year. Tye River Cabin Co. offers three different stunning A-frame cabins located on Mt. in the middle of the Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and all three accept pets for a fee. Word to the wise, it can be hard to get a booking considering each of their amazing Insta posts get thousands of likes. Pet information is listed below each cabin’s information.
We had a happy Easter weekend at Semiahmoo in 2019 and I look forward to returning to its beautiful scenery and remote beach which Lizzie enjoyed exploring. Just a stone’s throw from the Canadian border, this peaceful resort is a great base camp for the great hikes and incredible scenic coastal views of northern Washington. They are very dog friendly and the pups are welcomed with their own bowls, a bed and (at least during our visit) some memory wood. More information about the dog here.
Travel back in time with a stay in one of these vintage trailers in Dayton, Oregon. The best part? They are located in the Willamette Wine Country. The trailers come with pour-over coffee, plush bedding and plush bath towels. Small dogs are allowed in the Shasta trailer and they provide more details here.
Anacortes is one of my favorite excursions from the city. Drive an hour and a half north of Seattle to find this quaint beach town with charming shops, delicious cafes and water views. (Watermark Book Co. is one of my favorite Washington D.C. bookstores!) And we love the very prominent downtown hotel, The Majestic, with its cozy guest rooms and amazing rooftop bar. I love a unique getaway and Winthrop’s Rolling Huts certainly delivers. These tiny houses were designed by Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects to be a modern alternative to camping. Go for a walk or relax and enjoy the incredible views of the mountains. Their Hotels.com listing has a pet policy listed under “Fees and Policies.”
This luxury resort on Hood Canal boasts that they’ve been raising chicks since 1913, and we can believe it with a full menu of Fido amenities. Keep that in mind when you rent a kayak, hike the trails, or just enjoy these views. Read dog poo here.
Okay, this one isn’t technically available yet, but we’ve signed up for notifications to get an order when these wonderful camping movies are released in Olympic National Park. They offer children comforts beyond standard camping while providing a secluded and sustainable way to get out into nature. I’m obsessed with the gorgeous new Water’s Edge Suites at this historic Orcas Island inn, which offer private balconies overlooking the bay. I can already see myself curled up in there with a book. This perfect beach town on Washington’s stunning Pacific coast is everything I look for in a vacation—a charming town with cute shops and restaurants, tons of rental options, and a pristine, sandy beach. Small dogs are welcome at many rental locations.
With beautiful views of Lake Washington, The Woodmark offers a wonderful escape just a quick drive from downtown Seattle. If you haven’t heard of Tentrr, you’re missing out. We stayed with them twice (in Vermont and on a trip to Maine that we blogged about here) and each trip was wonderful. Basically, they built luxury safari tents on special plots of private land, like this beautiful fruit farm near Meade, Washington. You can even choose to pay a bit more to have one of their fruit pies delivered to your premises, or some of their farm fresh eggs for a delicious alfresco treat. Admittedly, Idaho is a bit of a hike from Seattle, but we could drive any distance to stop at this expansive vantage point. Also, little details like the sauna on site and the antique coffee grinder melt my heart. Pets are allowed, although judging by the entry stairs, you may have to assess whether this would be a fun holiday for you.
