Thanks to the wonderful Jess from The Doggie Barn (aka “The Best Place to Spend a Day…Every Day with Your Puppy”) for helping put together this curated list with the help of local dog owners. and went on for miles. . beautiful streets in the area of your best friends. Special thanks to the moms of the models: Noella (Mac and Indy) for enjoying these many trips, and Gina from Gina’s Creative Outlet (Stout). Known for its palm trees, Spanish Steps and sandy beaches, hike South Carolina. The trails are definitely a well-kept secret! Whether meandering trails leading to breathtaking waterfalls, dense green mountain views, or clear blue lake views are your thing, South Carolina trails are definitely worth the trip! Plus, you’d be hard-pressed to find a trail that isn’t dog-friendly!
A 425-mile road that takes in all that South Carolina has to offer. This road starts from the sea and ends in the mountains. It goes through some of the most diverse terrain in the country and could be described in a separate blog post! The most popular sections include: Jocassee Gorges Passage (described below) and Oconee Passage, which connects the breathtaking waterfalls and our next trail, the Foothills Trail!
A 77-mile road that covers the hills and mountains of South Carolina. There are many waterfalls and amazing views on this trek. Backpackers should plan 5-10 days for this, but for those who just want a day hike, it can easily be done in parts! It is worth adding that this is a multi-day backpacking trip for beginners – because of the wide availability of water! This tour also includes the tallest mountain in South Carolina – Mount Sassafras!
By a mile, these are my two favorite waterfalls in SC! Falls Creek is located in the bridge wilderness and is the least traveled of the three. It’s not an easy walk, but it’s a great place to bathe your kids!

The rainbow waterfall is a sight to behold. This road is 5 miles through the forest and has very few hills. It’s tough, but it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen! The rainbow cascades over 100 feet from the granite walls, reflecting a big, bold and beautiful rainbow! This is also a favorite hike in the spring and summer because the kids have plenty of water and plenty of shade on the five-mile hike!
3 kilometers through dense forest is a moderate walk, but shorter! It’s best seen after heavy rains and has lots of small pools for your dog (and humans too!) to play in. Yellow Branch is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area – so don’t forget your camera!
A favorite (mystery) waterfall in the Southeast. The name Moonshine Falls comes from – as you can imagine – where there is still moonlight! There are still 55 liter barrels left for sale, which makes for great photos! Not only is this beauty very dog friendly, but it’s also easy to use! A 40-foot waterfall has a snorkeling section where you can go around and get out! At 6 miles long and with several river crossings, this is not a trip for everyone or every child! The trail to Moonshine Falls is located at a private summer camp and retreat, so be sure to call ahead and get your permit (and pass code!) to hike!
Named one of the top 50 “Most Beautiful Places in the World” by National Geographic, you will never see a lake like this! This pristine reservoir also has many waterfalls on its banks, which can be reached by boat! Devil’s Fork State Park is the perfect place to hike and explore Lake Joxie and its many hiking trails! Explore the island by kayaking or paddle boarding with your pet!

All of Colorado’s dog-friendly sites on this list are located on public lands. However, different laws have different laws regarding seat belts. Some national forests and wilderness areas require dogs to be on a leash, while others require dogs to be “counseled” (meaning on a leash or under strict voice control). Some areas, such as Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, offer special programs where dogs can receive audio and visual cues to walk off-leash. Please follow the leash rules when walking to keep dogs off leash.
If your dog does not have a good memory, it should always be kept on a leash. You should always have a leash handy when walking your dog on a leash or letting him swim off the leash, in case you encounter other dogs or small children. Remember that keeping your dog on a leash while walking helps prevent negative interactions with wildlife and keeps your dog safe.
Ultimately, your job as a dog owner is to know and follow leash laws. Track heads are usually well marked and indicate when poles are required, but rules and regulations can change at any time. When in doubt, use a rope!
