National parks are great places to walk dogs, and Acadia National Park is one of the best. Over 100 miles of trails are available to explore, and a free dog-friendly shuttle bus takes riders around the park and around the island itself.

Check out trails like the Precipice Trail, the Champlain Mountain & Beehive Loop Trail, and the Gorham Mountain Trail. Campgrounds like Blackwoods and Seawall accept pets overnight. Just outside the national park boundary is Little Long Pond, a 1,000-acre park where dogs can run free.

There is one restaurant in the park and good news – pets are welcome! Since 1893, guests of Acadia National Park have lined up to take in the incredible views and marvel at the Jordan Pond House. Travelers planning a trip to New England with their pet’s comfort in mind may want to consider spending a few days in Cape Cod. There are tons of dog-friendly activities and attractions for you and your furry companions, like the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore and Nauset Light Beach, where they can swim in the shallows. 

In addition to its dog-friendly beaches, Cape Cod is known for its pet-friendly restaurants and shops.
