One of Queensland’s dog-friendly places to stay is The Summit 1770, built just outside Agnes Water for dogs and their owners. A car park was recently built near the entrance, along with three dog-friendly huts near the top.
There is a combination of powered and non-powered areas as well as a large camp kitchen and utility block. But it’s her dog accessories that really stand out.
Directly opposite the main facilities block is a large park, complete with swimming pool. Another small dog also ran near the sunset viewing area. It’s a useful base for exploring the Atherton Tablelands, although only caravans and campervans are allowed – no tent camping. One of the problems with long-term travel is that places to wash your dog’s bedding (or towels or jackets…) at mobile home parks don’t allow washing of dog items in park laundry facilities. Please the park has provided a special washing machine just for washing dog beds.
One of the most dog-friendly places near Bundaberg is Woodgate Beach, thanks to its long, pristine stretch of beach at either end. Luckily, the local NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park is also pet friendly.
Both regular rooms and slab-sided rooms allow up to two pets, be they dogs, cats or birds. Reservations must be made directly with the park. When you check in with your dog, you’ll be given a dog welcome pack, complete with a dog-friendly map, dog biscuits and the all-important poop bag.
